Lewis/Upshur Community Corrections

The Lewis/Upshur Community Corrections provides a mechanism for multi-county collaboration that gives the judicial system a sentencing alternative for adult offenders who may require less than institutional custody. While responding to crime, Community Corrections stand for flexibility within the counties, community protection, affordable rehabilitation programs and offender accountability. A reduction in recidivism and behavior changes are long term goals.

After an assessment has been completed for each client, a program is designed to target the areas in the offender’s life that need the most attention. Community Corrections offers:

  • Educational Aid: Clients will participate in GED classes if needed and may receive assistance with vocational training

  • Substance Abuse Counseling: On site counselor offers individual and group therapy

  • Mental Health Needs: Clients are referred to mental health providers to evaluate and address unmet needs

  • Job/Life Skills: Staff assists in resume building, job interview techniques and other skills needed to obtain and maintain employment

  • Domestic Violence Intervention: Batterer’s Intervention and Prevention Program is a 32 week course that domestic violence offenders are sentenced to complete. The class focuses on what constitutes abuse and helps students learn appropriate ways in which to deal with conflict in their relationships

  • Parenting: Family Court litigants are referred to this 1day class to satisfy their court case obligations. There is also a 6 week course for more in depth view of appropriate parenting techniques

  • SCRAM: This alcohol monitoring bracelet is a tool to help maintain sobriety

  • Anger Management: Available in a group or individual format

  • DUI Awareness: 3 day course designed to educate DUI offenders on the dangers of driving under the influence

  • Child Support Arrears: This program verifies that clients referred from Family Court are seeking employment and paying toward their arrears

  • Community Service

  • Drug/Alcohol Testing
